Ashleigh:

Hello and welcome to Generally Practising with Ashleigh. I'm Ashleigh. I work as a General Practice Nurse in the United Kingdom. I wanted to create this podcast because I myself find podcasts an incredibly useful source of information. I find it a really easy and innovative way to keep up to date with information changes, anything like that. I find it incredibly easy to just pop on a podcast on my way to work or walk in the dog, and it's a really good way of disseminating information and having a quick update, a quick catch up with what's going on in the world of nursing.

Ashleigh:

However, I haven't been able to find any podcasts myself that are specifically for nurses working in general practice, so if you know any, then please do let me know. However, I have found many that are related to general practice and they do focus quite heavily on the doctors, which is understandable. Also, a whole host of podcasts for nurses in a variety of different settings, but not specifically general practice. So I do appreciate there is a lot out there, but I thought it might be quite fun to see if there's an audience for general practice nurses specifically. I want to try and keep these podcasts maybe to once a fortnight, once a month. I'll see how I get on, and I thought it would be nice to perhaps get some of the multidisciplinary team involved occasionally to see how that impacts the role of general practice nurses and how we can work together for better patient care and if anyone is willing then other practice nurses to collaborate, just to see if there's any innovative ways of working out there that we can share any tips or tricks of the trade. And really just I wanted to see if I can create a platform to engage and I actually thought it might be a little bit of fun, because I do love my job and I do love talking about my job.

Ashleigh:

As my friends would probably tell you, I do think podcasts are a really, really handy way of keeping up to date. There's always information, changing, new guidance, always changes to things that we have to keep up to date with, and it can be really challenging to find that and to find the time to read things to, to sit down and stop and do that, and so perhaps I thought it'd be helpful, uh, if this podcast maybe uh were to try and focus on condensing some of that um information, updates, guidance, etc. Into a podcast um and to sort of spotlight on any things that are happening in general practice. Anything that's got particular momentum at that time, I'll aim to cover that. So I just want it to be able to be a tool to help.

Ashleigh:

I think this sort of information sharing through remote platforms such as, you know, groups, you know that can be really beneficial. You know forums, groups, pages, and so I'm hoping the podcast will add to that. The first proper episode I'm going to focus on the upcoming changes to the UK schedule immunisations, as I know there's a lot of talk surrounding that, so I'm hoping to cover that in a bit more detail but maybe make it seem a little bit less scary. So for now, thank you for listening. There should be a link in the description to text any suggestions of content you may have or topics you're interested in. But for now, happy practising.
